Oakland Art Gallery
Oakland, CA
Oakland Art Gallery, created in a unique private / public partnership
with the City of Oakland and the Pardee Artists, is a newly developed
gallery space located in a new Lionel Wilson Building facing
the Frank Ogawa Plaza and the Rotunda Building across Oakland's
City Hall. The new Gallery celebrates Oakland's cultural
landscape, exhibiting emerging and established professional artists.
The art spaces were carefully laid out to allow flexible exhibitions
for flatwork and sculpture. Two main galleries are on two
levels and assessable by stairs and ramp. The flexible
grid of track lighting is blended with natural indirect day lighting. A
custom designed reception desk dually serves as an office /information
as well for visual security. During special events and
evening gallery receptions, the desk serves a central entry point
orienting visitors to the exhibitions. The newly poured
charcoal colored concrete flooring is a desirable backdrop for
sculpture exhibitions. Ancillary
spaces for art prep and storage are conveniently planned withinthe
main space to serve the changing galleries. |
