Triton Museum of Art
Santa Clara,
CA
The Triton Museum of Art by Barcelon & Jang serves as the primary
cultural center for the City of Santa Clara. The new facility
holds Triton’s permanent collection, changing exhibition
galleries, administrative offices, a 200-seat lecture hall, and
a children's "art reach" program. The museum building
is composed of interconnected geometric forms dominated by a skylit
rotunda entry and custom pyramidal skylights in the galleries. Upon
approaching the Triton Museum from the Civic Center, the visitor
is guided through a gentle sloping ramp flanked by palm trees towards
a prominent rotunda entry. Subsequently, this rotunda is
the organizing element that orders the visitors' procession through
the museum. Its form generates the curving glass arcade,
which provides the soft outer edge that mediates the indoor and
outdoor exhibition spaces. |
