Washington-Hyde
Park
San Francisco,
CA
Located in the heart of a densely populated community, Washington-Hyde
Park serves as a much needed open space and recreation resource
for children in the Chinatown/Nob Hill area. The evolution
of this park is marked by a series of phases including input
from the children and parents in the community and forming a
partnership with the Department of Recreation and Parks to make
this park possible. It has become a park for seniors, parents,
school age and pre-school users, as well as handicapped children
who can enjoy specially designed accessible areas. One
can find areas for relaxation, passive contemplation and picnicking,
as well as separate play areas for the more active school age
children and preschoolers. The park takes form as a miniature
urban landscape with a “child scaled” street of building
facades. Washington-Hyde Park is constructed of integral color
concrete, which will insure that the vibrant colors will not
fade or need painting maintenance. |
